Let me begin this post by admitting: I am a food lover at heart! Everything that has to do with sourdough bread, butter (especially whipped!), good quality cheese or freshly baked deliciously sweet pastries, screams my name. It is as if there is some kind of magnet that automatically pulls me in - believe me, this is definitely not made up \ud83d\ude09
So if you are like me and you deeply enjoy a simple bread & butter (or as we Germans like to call it \"Butterbrot\") and good quality ingredients in general, the caf\u00e9 \"mehlwassersalz\" in Frankfurt, Germany is a must-visit. 

When I started creating this post, the first thing that came to my mind was: \"I have to include lots of pictures!\". Because I am certain that wherever you may be, just looking at the photos of the delicious foods will convince you of just how good this caf\u00e9 is. 

So, when I started collecting all of my snap shots of \"mehlwassersalz\" from my phone in a folder, I quickly realized : \"Oh Fiona, you've really been there a lot\". It did not last long and I found myself with 37 \"objects\" in my \"mehlwassersalz\"-folder. This again is proof of the deep love I have for this caf\u00e9 and the reason why you should definitely check it out when in Frankfurt. 

But now, enough with the adoration - let's get down to business!<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

In Germany we have the saying \"Das Auge isst mit\" which translates into English as \"The eye eats too\". As you can see in the photos above, \"mehlwassersalz\" takes this saying quite seriously. They truly do a hell of an amazing job when it comes to the presentation. The food arrives and you are just blown away by the simple beauty of it. 

And yes, before anybody comes for me: Of course, presentation is not the only thing that counts. What is even more important is (*please imagine a drum roll*) taste. And I am very happy to report back that \"mehlwassersalz\" succeeds in this category as well. 

Their menu offers a variety of foods so that everybody is able to find something. From the classic \"sourdough bread & whipped organic butter\", the Oriental-inspired \"Shakshuka\" to the sweet breakfast choice, the \"sourdough pancakes\"- they've got it all. 
It would be hard to go into depth about everything they offer (because of the variety), so I thought I would just point out my three personal favorites. <\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

Number<\/strong> One<\/strong>: Spinach omelet, cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche, chives, sourdough bread & whipped organic butter from Gl\u00e4serne Molkerei with grated mountain cheese <\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

What I love about this breakfast is the simplicity of it, and believe me, when I say that it blows me away every time!
I don\u00b4t know how they do it, but the consistency of the omelette is always a delicious mixture of fluffiness and moistness. When pared with the cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche and the grated mountain cheese it adds a gentle saltiness and light creaminess that is irresistible. 
What I think is important to add is the fact that they get their grated mountain cheese from the \"Gl\u00e4serne Molkerei\", a German organic company that specializes in producing dairy products made from 100% organic milk. They stand for a high level of transparency and give consumers the opportunity to directly trace the production process. In my eyes this is just an evidence that \"mehlwassersalz\" truly cares for good quality products. 
The omelette is always served with two slices of freshly baked sourdough bread. Honestly in my eyes, the bread is the real star of the show. It is fluffy yet dense, and the crust is perfectly crispy while not being too hard. What makes it even better, is that it comes with a big dollop of whipped organic butter and therefore adds a rich buttery finish to the dish.
For us Germans bread & butter is kind of like the oxygen every human needs to live, so I feel more than qualified to rank and recommend good bread - and \"mehlwassersalz\" is one of the top places. <\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

Number<\/strong> Two<\/strong>: Matcha Latte<\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

When it comes to matcha, the opinion is split - you either love it or hate it. And honestly: I get both sides! 

Some might think: \"Ugh, just another matcha girl hopping on the trend. This is so overrated and way too expensive!\"
Then there is the other side saying: \"I love the taste! It is a great alternative to coffee- let's switch it up!\"

So here goes my outing: I love a good matcha! 
Don't get me wrong, I adore a nice coffee, but sometimes I just crave something different.

I still remember when I drank my first matcha and I must admit, it did had a \"grassy\" taste to it. But the more I drank it, the more I started to like the \"earthy\" taste of it. Many also consider matcha the \"better\" coffee because, unlike pure caffeine, it provides a gentle but significantly longer-lasting energy boost without the typical energy crashes- and all of my family and friends know I am all about making healthier choices, so this is great side effects!

I feel like with matcha, it is something that slowly grows on you. The more you consume it, the more you start to like. What's very important on your \"matcha journey\" is making sure you drink a good quality matcha because if you don't, sorry to say that so blunt but: no wonder you don't like it.

\"mehlwassersalz\" is a great place to get a high quality matcha. The matcha latte is creamy, rich and earthy, and the beautiful latte art goes to show how much love and passion they (literally) pour into their work. You can get the matcha warm or iced,, and besides cow's milk I believe they also offer almond and oat milk. 
My go to order is a warm matcha latte with cow\u00b4s milk. An exception is obviously the really hot days where I have to order my matcha iced!

For all my fellow matcha lovers: I guarantee, this will be your happy place.

Number<\/strong> Three<\/strong>: Sourdough pancakes with seasonal toppings<\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

If you are a sweet breakfast lover like me, the sourdough pancakes from \"mehlwassersalz\" will be you newest addiction! 

They are served fresh and warm, straight from the pan, and are usually topped with a generous amount of delicious cream, seasonal fruits and other components like nuts or edible flowers. 
For example the photo on the right shows the sourdough pancakes with blueberries, vanilla and a pumpkin seed cream. 
Although they switch their flavours every few months, I can guarantee you that each flavour combination is going to be a hit. 

What I love about this breakfast is the combination of flavors, which at first glance often seem strange and mismatched, but always turn out to be incredibly delicious. What the \"mehlwassersalz\" kitchen often does is combine a sweet element (like the blueberries and whipped cream) with a savory element (such as the pumpkin seeds and cream). Therefore the flavors are well-balanced - none of them steals the show from the others.
Another aspects that really stands out to me is the whipped cream. I have to admit, I\u2019m usually not a big fan of whipped cream... but somehow \"mehlwassersalz\" manages to make sure that the cream isn\u2019t heavy or overpowering, which I find scrumptious!<\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
